SCOTS have been warned not to drink a popular dairy company's milk after a "do not consume" alert has been issued.
Graham’s Family Dairy has recalled products of its semi-skimmed milk after products were found to contain antibiotics, posing a health risk to anyone with an allergy to antibiotics and penicillin.
The affected products are sold in one pint, one litre, and two litre bottles, and the company has urged customers not to drink the milk and to return it to the place of purchase for a full refund. The dates impacted are those labelled as being "best before July 31."
In a statement, Graham’s Family Dairy said: "Graham’s Family Dairy is recalling Graham’s Family Dairy Semi-Skimmed Milk because veterinary medicines, including antibiotics (penicillin), have been found the product.
"If you have bought the above product, do not consume it."
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) confirmed that veterinary medicines were found in three different milk products.
The FSA said the presence of antibiotics made the products unsafe to consume, especially for those allergic to antibiotics and penicillin.
The dairy company apologised for the recall and reassured customers that no other Graham’s Family Dairy products or use-by dates are affected.
A spokesman for Graham’s Family Dairy said: "At Graham's Family Dairy we believe that the quality of our products and the safety of our consumers is paramount.
"Due to this we are asking our customers not to consume but to return the products.
"This is a precautionary measure we have taken as there is a small risk a trace level of antibiotics may be present in the milk which could cause a reaction to consumers with an allergy to antibiotics.
"If you have purchased any of these products, please do not consume.
"We apologise for this issue and would like to reassure our customers, no other Grahams Family Dairies products or Use By Dates are affected."
