Glaswegians shocked as internet sensation Troy Hawke gives away free holidays in viral clip

Internet sensation Troy Hawke surprised Glasgow residents by giving away free holidays in a viral video which shows the comedian, who is known for his door greeter videos, stopping people in the city centre.

The TikTok star, who is renowned for his quick wit and compliments, left shoppers flabbergasted by trying to give away a number of freebies - but he was not believed by some passersby.

During the ‘professional greeters visit to Buchanan Galleries he offered free-of-charge trips to destinations such as Budapest and Tenerife, thanks to a campaign run by the online travel agent, Love Holidays.

He said: “I was giving away holidays and nobody believed me. I was trying to initiate interactions with people, and they immediately thought I was trying to sell them something.”

After failing to engage in conversation with shoppers at Buchanan Galleries that day, Troy can be seen in the video offering lip balm to passers-by to start conversations.

Later on in the TikTok clip, Troy started to gain some traction from onlookers after looking for the right people for his chosen holidays.

And even after he told people they had won a holiday they did not believe him.

He continued: “There wasn’t one person that I gave the holidays to that believed me, every single person fixed me with this steady eye contact.

“I literally had to stare people in the eye, put a hand on their shoulders and tell them that they had just won a holiday.

“Those people who I gave the holidays to walked off in zombie-like belief.”

And Troy spoke of his love for spending time in Glasgow, he said: "The people of Glasgow are naturally more ebullient, I think Glasgow, Liverpool and Newcastle are beacons of friendliness above and beyond what you normally find in Britain. They are also my favourite places to play as the crowds are always more energetic and giving.
"I just love the people here."
He confirmed that he is also looking forward to playing shows in the city in the near future.
The hilarious star also regaled us with the tale of someone in Glasgow trying to hire an impersonator of him for a party, which he jokingly thought about responding to and turning up to see if they noticed the difference.

Some of the people who engaged in conversation with the well-mannered funnyman and self-proclaimed president of the ‘Greeters Guild’ were given free holidays courtesy of Love Holidays, with getaways to Mallorca, Tenerife, Rhodes, Budapest and Portugal all on the cards.

Al Murray, Chief Marketing Officer at loveholidays, said: “With summer still a good few months away, we wanted to spread some positivity and the holiday spirit here in Glasgow, and there was no one better to help us do so than Troy Hawke.

“It was both hilarious and heartwarming to see the shocked reactions of those who encountered Troy – particularly our holiday winners, who we can’t wait to send on sunshine-filled getaways soon.”
