Glastonbury, one of the world's most thrilling music festivals, has returned after being cancelled for two years in a row due to the coronavirus pandemic. The year, the event will take place from Wednesday 22 June to Sunday 26 June.
Glastonbury Festival always takes place on the final weekend of June. Traditionally it has a 'fallow year' every five years to allow the land to rest due to the sheer amount of guests who attend the iconic festival.
The short hiatus also prevents excessive damage to the site and allow the locals some time to rest. Despite its name, Glastonbury Festival is actually in the Somerset village of Pilton at Worthy Farm. The site is still a working farm owned by the festival’s founder Michael Eavis.

The year 2018 was an official fallow year, with the festival commencing again in 2019. However, due to the coronavirus pandemic and the UK going into lockdown, the festival was cancelled in 2020 and 2021 - which resulted in organisers enforcing two consecutive fallow years.
Speaking at the time, owners Michael and Emily Eavis said: "With great regret, we must announce that this year's Glastonbury Festival will not take place, and that this will be another enforced fallow year for us. In spite of our efforts to move heaven and earth, it has become clear that we simply will not be able to make the festival happen this year. We are so sorry to let you all down."
But with the festival returning this year, it means that the next fallow year is likely to not be until 2027 - though this has not been confirmed.
Stars set to perform this year include former Beatle Paul McCartney, Led Zeppelin alum Robert Plant with country star Alison Krauss, Diana Ross, 20-year old chart topper Billie Eilish - making her the youngest Glastonbury headline act to date - and many more. Two major artists are still to be confirmed on the lineup, for Sunday afternoon in the John Peel tent, and Sunday evening on the Park stage.
