Glastonbury Festival 2022: Michael Eavis tells first arrivals it will be 'best show ever'

Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis applauded the first arrivals at Worthy Farm's gates today as he promised the "best show ever". The festival is returning for its 50th anniversary after a three-year hiatus due to Covid-19.

There were huge cheers and applause when he emerged alongside Emily Eavis from behind the green door at Pedestrian Gate A this morning (Wednesday, June 22), as the press cameras begin clicking. Michael, the festival's founder, clapped as well in response.

When asked "how does it feel?" by someone in the crowd, the 86-year-old said: "We're ready to go. After three years, it's fantastic.

One hand-written poster on the queue barriers read: 'Welcome home'. Some festival-goers have been queuing for 24 hours in a desperate bid to get into the highly-anticipated event, which opened its gates at 8am.

There are long delays on a number of A-roads this morning as revellers make their way to the festival site in Pilton, Somerset, with queuing traffic on the A361 between West Pennard and Pilton.
