Glastonbury viewers couldn't quite believe what they were seeing as a female musician seemingly 'played' a pair of scissors during Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds' performance on the Pyramid Stage. As the Oasis singer promised fans that there would be "a lot of very happy people in bucket hats", they didn't quite expect to see a band member playing the unusual instrument.
During his set, Gallagher performed Oasis hits like Wonderwall, as well as, he said, "a few more tunes that you don’t give a s**t about". However, during the song She Taught Me How To Fly, a lot of fans were distracted by a a very enthusiastic scissors player. Social media immediately responded. One person said: "My Glastonbury highlight so far is the musician playing the scissors."
The musician was commended for her choice of instrument. During the perfomance, she held the stationery staple to the microphone in the hope that the whole of Worthy Farm would be able to hear her. Despite making a small impact on the overall song, the influx of tweets and comments flooded in following her appearance on BBC's Glastonbury coverage.
"There’s a woman in the band for Noel Gallagher playing the scissors!!!" exclaimed one fan, while another posted: "There’s someone on stage with Noel Gallagher clicking a pair of scissors into the microphone. Wtf".
This wasn't the first appearance of the musician with the High Flying Birds. The woman in question, Charlotte Marionneau, came to the public's attention in 2017 during an appearance with the band on Later with Jools Holland.
The comments continued. One person said: "I can’t believe it’s 2022 and people are only just noticing there’s a French woman playing the scissors."
Elsewhere, others recognised Charlotte's work: "She’s been playing the scissors in the background for Noel Gallagher, for about 5 years. How is anyone still pretending this is something new? It’s just a gimmick."
