Glasgow weather map as 14cm of snow to fall amid Met Office yellow warning

Glasgow is set to see wintery weather conditions this week, with snow soon set to fall throughout Thursday and Friday.

According to a recent yellow weather warning from the Met Office, locals should expect "heavy snow" which "has the potential to cause significant disruption" later this week, with up to 14cm of the white stuff forecast to fall in some areas across the city.

The weather warning for snow is set to come into force 3am on Thursday, March 9, remaining in place until 6pm the following day.

In an update, WXCharts has issued a detailed weather map of Glasgow, predicting snow as deep as 14cm throughout Friday and 12cm across this weekend and into Monday.

The Met Office is also predicting heavy snowfall on Friday, with disruption likely across Glasgow and the west.

The forecasters state that "parts of Scotland and northern England will then see the heaviest snow on Friday.

"Event totals could bring five to 10 cm of snow to many locations, even at low elevations, with potentially 15 to 20 cm accumulating across the northern portion of the warning area.

Lows of -3C are expected today, with -4C forecast overnight tomorrow.

The cold-snap is set to continue throughout the rest of the week with temperatures of just -1C onThursday and -2C on Friday.

The Met Office has said the people can expect the following across both days as we head into the weekend:

  • There is a small chance that long delays and cancellations on bus, rail and air travel could occur
  • There is a slight chance that roads may become blocked by deep snow, with many stranded vehicles and passengers
  • There is a small chance that communities could be cut off for several days
  • There is a small chance that long interruptions to power supplies and other services, such as gas, water, telephone and mobile phone coverage, may occur
