A Glasgow theatre has been named as one of the UK's most beautiful theatres, in a new study by hotel chain Premier Inn.
To crown the most beautiful theatres in the world, Premier Inn used eye-tracking technology to study which theatres people's eyes were drawn to the most. The results revealed that the Glasgow Theatre Royal was the 10th most appealing to the eye in the UK overall, and 7th for its beautiful interiors.
The study used a unique way of analysing the objective beauty of theatres; participants were asked to look at a series of images of 36 of the world’s most famous theatres.

They were told to look at both the outside building and interior theatre, and eye-tracking technology was then used to reveal which images drew the human eye most.
Scotland’s longest running theatre, the Glasgow Theatre Royal, had an average fixation length of 1.5 seconds, rounding off the top ten of the most beautiful theatres in the UK.
The stunning open-air Minack Theatre which perches on Cornwall’s atmospheric cliffs is the theatre that participants deemed most beautiful during the study. Originally constructed in 1930, the theatre offers sweeping panoramic views over the emerald waters of Porthcurno Bay.
Shakespeare's Globe in London took second, with the Grand Opera House in Belfast taking third place. Wales Millennium Centre in Cardiff was in fourth, with the Royal Exchange Theatre in Manchester rounding off the top five.

"We were delighted to see that the UK was home to so many eye-catching theatres, but also great to have stunning, travel-bucket-list worthy buildings such as the Walt Disney Concert Hall and Palais Garnier make the global rankings too."
