Glasgow Tesco store 'on alert' amid reports of shoppers being mugged at ATMs

Tesco say they are liaising with police amid reports of shoppers being mugged at ATMs outside a Glasgow Tesco store.

The reports are in connection with the ATMs located next to the car park of the Tesco Extra store in the Maryhill area of the city.

Community group No1Seems2Care were informed that an attempted mugging allegedly took place at the ATMs on Wednesday of this week, resulting in a man being assaulted.

This prompted another member of the public to allege that they were mugged at the same ATMs a few weeks ago. They said they escaped injury but were left "badly shaken" after a man grabbed their money and ran off.

The same person alleged that staff at the Maryhill store "said this was a regular occurrence" and are "concerned about the frequency of these incidents".

Glasgow Live reached out to Tesco in the wake of the reports, with Tesco confirming they have been in contact with Police Scotland and are "helping them with their enquiries".

A spokesman for Tesco said: "Customer and colleague safety is our number one priority. We’ve made the police aware of a recent incident and are helping them with their enquiries."
