Glasgow student sparks controversy after saying hometown of Edinburgh is better 'in every way'

It's a tale - and a rivalry - as old as time: Glasgow v Edinburgh, east v west, good v evil (according to some).

Now, of course we don't need to think twice before making the correct decision and pledging our allegiance to the Dear Green Place, but there are tragically still people out there making terrible errors of judgement.

A Glasgow student has caused some major controversy with his claim that his hometown of Edinburgh is best.

Known as Keano on TikTok, he created the video entitled 'Edinburgh vs Glasgow! No hate lol,' on Friday, Edinburgh Live reports.

Aware of the potential consequences of reigniting the long-standing discourse, the student begins with a warning, saying that he is "about to cause major offence to some people."

Still, despite his disclaimers, it doesn't take the student long to dive right in with some fairly shocking takes, as he says: “Edinburgh tops Glasgow in almost everything."

He then adds that the capital is “of course prettier” than its neighbour down the M8.

Now, we're not arguing that Edinburgh is a pretty city (in a fancy, some might say slightly stuck-up sort of way...), but we can't help but think he's really selling Glasgow short here.

After all, we're not called the Dear Green Place for nothing, and whether you're wanting a picturesque walk through the Botanic Gardens, Queen's Park, Kelvingrove or Glasgow Green, the city has more charming green space than you can shake a stick at.

But maybe Keano is looking for better views? In that case we'd point him in the direction of the top of the Necropolis, the Lighthouse or Cathkin Braes.

But Keano's “biggest grievance” seems to be that “Glasgow buses suck," whereas Lothian buses are “luxury - like sitting in the interior of something made out of angora rabbit.”

He adds: “Yes, Glasgow has a Subway but it doesn’t go anywhere useful, it's a bit like the Edinburgh trams."

Whilst we'll defend our Clockwork Orange to the death, it's his comments about the people that we object to the most.

Keano says: “Everyone says in the main that Glaswegians are much more friendly than Edinburgh people…

"I think you are going to have to show me you're working on that."

We can tolerate a lot of things, but there's absolutely no deny that Glaswegians are the best sort going - whether you're looking for a laugh, a shoulder to cry on or a helping hand, you can always rely on Glasgow locals.

And while he does give Glasgow some brownie points when it comes to finances, it's not without another dig.

He says: “Edinburgh is a lot more expensive than Glasgow and that is an area where Glasgow wins.”

Keano goes on to say that he sees the cost difference in a different light from others, as he views Edinburgh as Marks & Spencer level of quality, and sees Glasgow as more of a Lidl.

He said that: “Everything is better value in Lidl and occasionally you find a gem like the bakery section.

“Whereas M&S is guaranteed quality.”

Although he does concede that: “I do however love Glasgow and walking down Buchanan Street is probably the most entertaining thing you can do with your day.

“And we can safely say that both are better than Dundee.”

We hate to say it, but we think Keano might be beyond saving with these unfortunate opinions...
