Glasgow sign Cameron Neild to cover for injuries

GLASGOW have responded to the long-term injuries to Rory Darge and Thomas Gordon by signing another back-row forward, Cameron Neild, for the rest of the season.

The 28-year-old has been without a club since Worcester went into administration in late September, but has maintained a high level of fitness and will be available to play for the Warriors against Leinster a week on Saturday.

“I’m delighted to join Glasgow,” Neild said on the Warriors website. “It’s been a tricky time for me with what happened at Worcester. However, I’m thrilled to be joining such a prestigious club and to get back to doing the job I love – playing rugby.

“It’s all happened pretty quickly, and everyone has been really welcoming. I’ve enjoyed my first few days at the club. My goal now is to get back out on the pitch, play some good rugby and win some rugby matches.”

Born in Manchester, Neild represented England at age-group level, and after joining Sale Sharks as a teenager went on to make more than 100 appearances for them. The move to Worcester meant he was reunited with his Sale director of rugby, Steve Diamond, who had taken up the same post at Sixways. Diamond chose him to captain the English Warriors on his debut.

Glasgow head coach Franco Smith is confident the new signing will add reliability and experience to his playing roster.

“We’re pleased to be able to bring Cameron into the squad,” he said. “He’s an experienced campaigner and will be a valuable asset to us in the coming months while Rory and Thomas recover from their injuries.

“Cameron joined us on Monday and has already shown to be a very diligent professional both on and off the pitch. It’s an exciting time at the club and we’re looking forward to having Cameron with us on our journey.”
