Glasgow's famous Pavilion Theatre is set for the final curtain under its current ownership after 'For Sale' notices appeared.
The owners, Tim and ADD Martin, have put the building up for sale and are in talks with Ambassador Theatre Group, who run the King's Theatre and Theatre Royal in the city. The theatre is reportedly for sale for £3.9 million, reports The Herald.
However, it is believed that all tickets sold for upcoming events at the 1,400 capacity theatre will be honoured.
The current General Manager, Iain Gordon, says he will be around until at least January and urged punters to keep buying tickets for shows, especially the ever popular Christmas pantomime.
Iain has managed the theatre for 40 years and thanked the public for the memories.
Posting on Facebook, he said: "Thank you all for the calls, extremely positive messages and support. As you will see by the press report in the Herald, it's a shock but unfortunately we cannot comment on this any further at this stage.
"The shows will continue under my management team until at least the end of January 2023, so please keep booking shows and for the panto as I personally would love to go out on a high and will ensure a fun filled family panto that you won't get anywhere else in Glasgow.
"If I was a footballer, this would be my testimonial game, so please let it be the best run ever!
"It's been an adventure over the past 44 years and I think we have one of the best, cleanest, friendliest hard working staff, and affordable theatres in Glasgow, but most of all a dedicated audience who return time after time for a great Pavilion Night Out!
"I thank you all for the memories and hope to see you all at the Magical Adventures of Aladdin."
Speaking to the Record, shocked punters reacted to the news.
Cathy Grouchey said: "I'm 66 and have been going to the Pavilion for nearly 50 years, it's an institution in Glasgow.
"The staff are so friendly and helpful. Some of the staff have even been in the shows themselves! If it's closed as a theatre it will certainly be a huge loss for me and Glasgow."
Samantha Perceval said: "It is just a wonderful place. I was brought up going to the Pavilion theatre and it feels like a second home to me."
