Glasgow’s offer of aid to help Pakistan's monsoon flood victims has not been taken up, an SNP councillor has confirmed.
The beginning of June 2022 saw the rain trigger the most severe flooding in Pakistan’s recent history with five times as much rain failing as the country’s 30 year average.
Villages were washed away and 1.7 million homes destroyed as well as 900 health facilities, 3.6 million acres of crops and 900,000 livestock.

At least 1300 people died as a result, with 33 million left needing urgent assistance. Others have suffered from various waterborne diseases as a result of the rain.
In September Glasgow City Council passed an emergency motion to ask the UK Government to work with bilateral and multilateral partners to provide whatever support is needed to help struggling communities, and to support the Emergency Appeal issued by Pakistan and the United Nations.
On Thursday, Labour councillor Cecilia O’Lone asked if there had been any further updates regarding the motion. Councillor Greg Hepburn confirmed that elected members had been updated on all the actions taken by the local authority.
Councillor Hepburn said: “Since the passing of the motion, members will have been updated on all actions undertaken.
“Those updates covered actions taken by officers and yourself Lord Provost to promote the disaster committee’s financial appeal to raise awareness of the issue among our citizens, attempts to reach out in solidarity to our twinning partners in Lahore and engagement with the Pakistan consular representatives in the UK Government.
“I can confirm that since the last briefing was issued the city council has not received any requests for assistance or response to our correspondence.
“When a reply or request is received I can assure members that we as a council stand ready to consider what can be provided within our power and responsibilities.”
