GLASGOW’S Lebanese community has come together in a bid to send aid to those living there as Israel’s military increases offensives against the country.
In a post on social media, campaigner Jonathon Shafi shared that the city’s Lebanese community is arranging two containers to arrive in Lebanon in the coming weeks.
It will contain critical items of aid, including winter clothing, footwear, blankets, medicines, medical equipment, baby milk, sanitary products and electric heathers.
Anyone wishing to donate items can do so by dropping them off at 25 Woodside Place, G3 7QL which is open on Thursday and Saturday evenings.
However, people are asked to contact the group before dropping items off on 07777 788850.
It also says items can be picked up for anyone living locally.
The post says: “We need your urgent support to provide emergency humanitarian relief for victims in Lebanon.
“The Lebanese community in Glasgow is arranging two containers to arrive in Lebanon in the coming weeks.”
It called for donations of the following items:
- Winter clothing: Jumpers/jackets/gloves/hats/socks
- Footwear: Boots/trainers
- Blankets
- Sleeping bags/inflatable beds
- Medicines/first aid kits
- Medical equipment: Blood pressure monitor/diabetes monitors & testing strips
- Baby milk/diapers
- Toys
- Sanitary products
- Electric heaters
Shafi added: “The Lebanese community in Glasgow is mobilising an aid effort to arrive in Lebanon in the coming weeks.
“Let’s help them and send solidarity.”
It comes as Israeli strikes killed 36 people, many of them children, in Gaza as well as three journalists in Lebanon, as worries grow about supply shortages and international pressure for a ceasefire increases.
US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has already said Israel had accomplished its objective of “effectively dismantling” Hamas and implored both sides to revive negotiations.
