Glasgow's latest covid figures ahead of Nicola Sturgeon statement

Nicola Sturgeon is set to give an update to the Scottish Parliament tomorrow following further easing of covid restrictions.

The First Minister will be speaking for the first time since nightclubs were allowed to reopen and the guidance urging people to work from home wherever possible was relaxed.

From today (January 31), work from home guidance changed to recommend working from home 'whenever practical' with employers urged to consider implementing 'hybrid working'.

The weekend also saw nightclubs open their doors for the first time since just after Christmas.

Speaking last week, Nicola Sturgeon said the situation in Scotland had 'significantly improved', giving confidence that most of the remaining protective measures could be lifted.

She added: "The welcome progress of the past week or so has been made possible by a combination of booster vaccination, the proportionate measures introduced in December, and of course the willingness of the public to adapt behaviour to stem transmission. All of that made a difference and has helped, I’m glad to say, send Omicron into reverse.

"This progress is real and I am very hopeful that it can be sustained.

"That said, we know there are still uncertainties ahead and this virus, of course, continues to be unpredictable."

The latest coronavirus statistics, published on Sunday, saw Scotland record two new deaths linked to covid-19 and 6,185 new cases in the previous 24 hours.

32 people were in intensive care and 1,217 people were in hospital yesterday with recently confirmed covid.

A total of 2,714 new PCR case were confirmed in Glasgow City between January 19 and 25 representing 427 per 100,000 of the population. The test positivity rate stands at 17.4%.

Meanwhile 68 neighbourhoods in the city are currently experiencing outbreaks of the virus and are deemed as covid 'hotspots'.

Pollok North and East, Roystonhill, Blochairn and Provanmill and Balornock have the highest rate of cases - with over 400 per 100,000 testing positive.

On the other end of the spectrum, two Glasgow neighbourhoods have suppressed the virus, with fewer than three cases being reported in Mount Vernon North and Sandyhills and Sighthill.

Nicola Sturgeon will be giving a covid statement at 2pm on Tuesday.
