Glasgow row of shops evacuated due to suspected gas leak with police at scene

Emergency services in Glasgow are responding to a suspected gas leak this afternoon.

Police and fire crews were alerted to Gorstan Street in Summerston next to Asda around 2:45pm this afternoon.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed that one appliance has been sent to the scene to assist.

A temporary cordon was put in place while they conducted their enquiries.

Local reports suggest that staff had to evacuate the hairdressers, chippy and chemist on the street as a precaution.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue Service spokeswoman said: "We were alerted at 2.47pm on Saturday, February 12 to reports of a gas leak on Gorstan Street. We dispatched one appliance to the scene. Crews remain in attendance."

A Police Scotland spokeswoman said: "We are aware of an incident and officers are at the scene assisting with traffic management."
