A historic Glasgow bridge is to undergo major improvement works that will cost £3.8 million and take over a year to complete.
Network Rail will begin work on the rail bridge that spans the A8 at Saltmarket near Glasgow on August 15 with work expected to be completed in September 2023. Essential repairs will be carried out to extend the lifespan of the bridge which is more than 150 years old.
The wrought-iron structure on the City Union Line provides a diversion route for freight traffic and a route for passenger trains to Shields Depot where they are stabled and cleaned.
