Glasgow night buses back from this weekend 'to help boost night-time economy'

First Glasgow has confirmed it is reinstating its weekend night bus network to help boost the night-time economy in the city and ease the pressure felt by recent rail disruption.

The network, consisting of 11 routes, will return from this Friday (June 17) covering travel from the city centre across Glasgow and the surrounding areas including Clydebank, Paisley, Newton Mearns, East Kilbride, Hamilton, Motherwell and Wishaw.

The bus operator said that the reinstatement of the night bus services "will allow everyone to enjoy their night out in Glasgow before getting home safely and comfortably in the early hours of Saturday and Sunday mornings".

Graeme Macfarlan, Commercial Director for First Bus Scotland, said: “We are absolutely delighted to announce the return of First Glasgow’s night bus network, supporting the city’s night-time economy while also helping people get home safely at the weekend.

“We are aware the challenges people have experienced in getting home from a night out, an event or indeed after a nightshift in the city centre in the early hours of the morning and hope the return of our night bus network will allow more people to enjoy all that Glasgow has to offer.

“The inclusion of the Young Persons Concessionary Travel Card is another fantastic bonus for under 22s in the city and a great opportunity allowing them to travel home completely free of charge.”

First Glasgow’s Night Bus Network operates in the early hours of Saturday and Sunday mornings and covers the following routes from the city centre:
