Glasgow named third dirtiest city in the world in new Time Out readers' poll

Glasgow has been named as the third dirtiest city in the world in a new poll.

The city was handed the unwanted accolade in a vote by readers of global food and cultural guide Time Out.

The findings appeared in their annual Time Out Index - which saw 27,000 city-dwellers from Melbourne to Madrid, Chicago to Copenhagen and Tel Aviv to Tokyo give their opinion on what the dirtiest and cleanest cities in the world are.

The results saw Italian capital Rome top the list, followed by New York in second place and Glasgow in third. On the flip-side, Stockholm was named as the cleanest city in the world.

Referring to the Big Apple's rubbish problem, the guide noted: "New York City has a trash problem. We see it (and smell it) every day—garbage piles up, the streets are full of litter and the rats run rampant now more than ever."

It comes just days after the very same Time Out Index saw Glasgow beat off competition from the likes of New York, London, Taipei and Chicago to be ranked the world's fourth best city to visit in 2022.

Glasgow was ranked as the world's friendliest city and the second most affordable, while Time Out say Glasgow's 'burgeoning dining scene is best characterised by friendly informality.'
