Glasgow has ranked among the top 20 cities across the globe for a healthy lifestyle, according to new research.
Contact lens retailer Lenstore has published its annual Healthy Lifestyle Report for 2023 and the Scottish city has ranked twentieth on the full list. Glasgow has also placed eighth in the UK leader board for Healthy lifestyle cities.
Experts looked at a range of different factors such as obesity levels, life expectancy, air and water quality, hours of sunshine, outdoor activity levels and working hours, with the Scottish city scoring 58 per cent score overall.
The company examined various data on both physical and mental health, awarding points to 58 cities across the globe to form the final rankings.
Staying on top of health can be a lot of work and it isn't just narrowed down to looks. While exercise and eating well are two key factors, others like how much time we spend outdoors, work and relax are also important for our mental wellbeing.
Scotland is home to hundreds of beautiful nature spots that help Scots make the most of the outdoors. As well as movement, time outdoors can also boost our mental health, regulate sleep patterns and help us relax, all which are part of living a healthy life.
Amsterdam has ranked first place, after being awarded a 78 per cent final mark. The Dutch capital was awarded an overall score of 533 points out of a possible 684 in the Healthy Lifestyle Report, climbing four places this year, from fifth place in 2022.
The city secured the number one spot due its higher-than-average 82 year life expectancy , high air quality and water quality levels, and its higher number of parks and green space per capita - 0.50 per 10,000 residents.
The city also offers a lot of outdoor activities, 0.52 per 10,000 residents, fewer working hours annually on average and it also has a shorter average working week (30 hours) compared to many of the other cities compared within the rankings.
