Glasgow locals asked to create mural recalling famous sayings of legendary Barras traders

Members of the public are being called upon to chip in with their memories of the Barras and the sayings of the market's most legendary traders as part of a new art project.

My Historic Neighbourhood, a project produced by Glasgow Building Preservation Trust, is celebrating the city’s heritage of areas around the city. On April 30, locals are to be welcomed at The Pipe Factory to contribute their recollections of the market.

The project began in November 2021, at an event marking the 100th anniversary of the market. Members of the community were invited to come forward with memories, with some recalling the trader that teased shoppers with: “Come a wee bit closer, madam, I don’t do mail order.”
