Glasgow killer jailed for Kenny Reilly murder blocked from being city landlord

A convicted murderer who was jailed for his part in a hit on a man in a Glasgow street has been blocked from operating as a landlord in the city.

Morton Eadie was sentenced to life imprisonment, with 22 years before he can seek parole, for the murder of Kenny Reilly in Maryhill in 2018. He is hoping to overturn the guilty verdict at the Court of Criminal Appeal in Edinburgh.

Mr Eadie had asked to be entered into the register of private landlords but, after hearing from a council official, the city’s licensing committee ruled he was not a “fit and proper” person and refused this application.

The official said the council had been informed there was an ongoing trial on receipt of the application to join the register. Mr Eadie was then convicted on February 9 this year.

Mr Eadie’s daughter-in-law told the committee she intends to take over the running of the property and has spoken to letting agents over managing it on her behalf. She said the home had previously been let out by a property management company.

The woman said the initial plan had been for the home, in the Wyndford area of the city, to be transferred as “a wedding gift to me and my partner”.

Mr Eadie was one of four men jailed over the hit on Mr Reilly. His son Darren, Ross Fisher and John Kennedy have also been locked up, but the four are appealing their convictions.

They received minimum jail terms totalling 94 years earlier this year for murdering Mr Reilly at Bilsland Drive, at the junction with Maryhill Road, on April 16, 2018, by repeatedly discharging a firearm at him and shooting him in the head. He died two days later at Glasgow Royal Infirmary.

It was reported at the time that Mr Eadie was the driver for hitman John Kennedy during the hit, which had been arranged by his son Darren.

All four were also convicted of attempting to defeat the ends of justice by setting fire to a car in Craigieburn Garden in a bid to destroy evidence.
