Glasgow guidance on where you can pay tribute to the Queen and lay flowers

A Book of Condolence to pay tribute to the Queen will be made available at the city council headquarters in Glasgow’s George Square.

Residents can express their sympathy by signing the book from 2pm to 8pm today in the Satinwood Suite in the City Chambers. People can also access it from Monday to Friday between the hours of 9am to 8pm and Saturday and Sunday from 9am to 5pm.

The front wall of the City Chambers has been designated as a special place for residents to leave flowers following the Queen’s death yesterday.

The Queen died peacefully yesterday afternoon at Balmoral aged 96. People around the country have been mourning her death with many leaving flowers and tributes.

Announcing the Book of Condolence, Lord Provost Jacqueline McLaren said: “As Lord Lieutenant, I will be the first signatory in a Book of Condolence, on behalf of the City of Glasgow, to mark the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. The book will then be signed by the city’s second and third citizens, The Lord Dean and the Deacon Convener.”

Responding to Her Majesty’s death yesterday, Provost McLaren described Queen Elizabeth II as: “A monarch who has served with pride, dignity, wisdom and grace for more than 70 years. The longest serving monarch in British history. A record breaking reign that oversaw and withstood many changes and challenges. Her Majesty was a figure of constancy and comfort to many.”
