Glasgow Glow Up star posts exclusive behind-the-scenes snaps on Instagram

A Glasgow contestant competing on BBC Three's Glow Up: Britain's Next Makeup Star has posted some exclusive snaps from behind-the-scenes of the programme on his social media.

21-year-old Adam is a freelance make-up artist (MUA), who is originally from Glasgow (where his family lives) and now lives in Liverpool and wants to show his culture in his work.

He has been performing well on the show, and decided to share some photos of the first episode on his social media of their first make-up looks.

Writing on Instagram, Adam said: "@glowupbbc with the most creative bunch. ps i loved doing this look on myself as i had never done makeup on my own face and although it didn’t turn out as i wanted, it had so much meaning behind it and i cant wait to share that with you all soon when i recreate it for now RAWR. #glowupbbc"

Fans of Adam flocked to his comments to praise his rawr-some look, with on Instagram user writing: "I thought your look was freakin gorgeous. I loved the negative spaces and the diamanté detailing, the yellow was so striking against your skin tone… I loved it! You should be so proud!"

Another said: "Can’t wait for tonight episode."

And a third wrote: "Cant wait for tonight!"

Others wrote: "All the feels", and "Much love Adam."

Adam is not your usual make-up artist - and he wants everyone to know that.

Growing up in Glasgow, everyone else in his family was an aspiring to become a doctor or lawyer but Adam felt differently - he didn’t feel at home until he had a make- up brush in his hand!

Adam is a self-taught freelance MUA, and his typical style is Glam make-up.

His looks are always on trend and Adam is not afraid to embrace his culture and include it in his work.

Adam wants to be a make-up artist to the stars in the US & dreams of seeing his creations at the Met Gala.

Adam’s family have been extremely supportive of his decision, which he says has broken down barriers in parts of his community by going against the ‘norm’.

On the next episode, the nine remaining MUAs are put in the spotlight as they enter the world of theatre. Having been booked by the world’s largest contemporary entertainment company, Cirque du Soleil, the MUAs must complete the stage looks on the artists for a live performance of Luzia at the Royal Albert Hall.

Joining Val and Dominic this week is make-up designer for eight of Cirque’s most iconic productions, Maryse Gosselin.

Piling on the pressure for their second assignment, the MUAs have just two hours before the live performance to follow Maryse’s step-by-step guide to replicate each performer’s exact character looks.

The next day, the MUAs gather at Glow Up Studios to find out which two looks failed to shine.

They start the day in the red Face Off chairs with a 15-minute time penalty in the Creative Brief.

For these two MUAs, the only way to escape the Face Off elimination at the end of the day is to wow the judges and beat the seat, meaning another MUA will need to take their place.

This week’s Creative Brief sees the MUAs challenged to create a body paint look inspired by all things weird and wonderful, extending beyond their model’s face and onto their torso, arms, and hands.

Three MUAs hope to make a splash with their looks by bringing to life sea creatures, from a Sally Lightfoot Crab found in the Galapagos to more mystical concepts such as mermaids and a fantasy idea of a fish-alien hybrid.

Risks are taken with the application of a bald cap which covers the model’s eyes (to symbolise being able to see into the future) and one MUA covers the whole torso and arms to create a celebration of the Chinese New Year, a personal nod to their childhood.

With three and a half hours on the clock, the MUAs need to push themselves further than ever to impress.

You can watch Glow Up: Britain's Next Makeup Star on Wednesday, May 18 at 8pm on BBC Three.
