Glasgow councillor to zip slide across the Clyde for charity

A councillor is preparing to whizz across the Clyde on a zip slide to raise money for charity Poppy Scotland.

City Councillor Thomas Kerr will take off from a crane beside the Glasgow Riverside Musuem as part of the 100ft high and 1000ft long challenge.

The Conservative politician admits he is slightly "terrified" as he gears up for the adventure on September 10 but will have his young son giving him encouragement.

Shettleston Councillor Kerr said: “Having worked and fundraised closely with Poppy Scotland before, I have seen and heard first-hand the amazing work they do to support our armed forces community in Glasgow and across Scotland.

“We must never forget the sacrifice made by our veterans and Poppy Scotland work tirelessly to ensure that is the case so it will be an honour to hand over whatever I raise to them.

“I wanted to make sure I was fundraising for them by going outside my comfort zone and a zip yard over the Clyde will certainly be a new challenge for me.

“I am slightly terrified by the prospect but also excited and know that I’ll have my new boy Joshua proudly cheering me on.”

Councillor Kerr has set up a JustGiving page for people to make donations.
The city's Conservative leader added: "I know that times are tough right now with the cost-of-living crisis but please give whatever you can to support such a good cause. All donations will be hugely appreciated."
