Glasgow council provides update on £150k grant as Batgirl film binned

Glasgow City Council said the grant had not been paid

GLASGOW City Council has revealed that the £150k grant to support Batgirl being filmed in the city has not been paid.

It was previously reported that the DC production, which was set to feature Hollywood stars Michael Keaton, Brendan Fraser, JK Simmons and Leslie Grace, has been scrapped by Warner Bros.

The whole project was filmed in Glasgow, which was the first time a major feature film production was based entirely in the city.

In September last year, the local authority approved a £150,000 Filming Incentive Grant.

Providing opportunities for Glasgow residents and production companies was a condition of grant.

Today, a Glasgow City Council spokesman said: “The filming of Batgirl brought a very significant economic benefit to Glasgow when the production was here, with 450 Glasgow-based crew jobs, almost 1300 Scottish supporting artists, and many subcontractors working as tradespeople and in traffic management and security.

"Any decision on the release of the production is very much a matter for Warner Bros.

"The £150,000 grant support has not been paid, and discussions continue with the producers.”
