Glasgow comedian Janey Godley admits she 'wants to cry' over cruel cancer trolls

Glasgow comedian Janey Godley has been inundated with support from her followers online after trolls targeting her started to involve her cancer diagnosis.

The comic, who has ovarian cancer, took to social media to thank those sticking by her side by tweeting: "Thanks for all your support and love."

As well as being attacked by cancer trolls, Janey is often sent abusive messages over her supportive views on trans rights.

Janey, 62, candidly opened up about the online abuse and admitted it makes her "want to cry" at times, adding that behind all the laughs and positive facade she sometimes struggles with the backlash, reports the Daily Record..

One vile tweet aimed at Janey said: "She should shave her head again even although it wasn’t required. Play a sympathy with major C."

Janey wrote to her followers on Twitter: "The @Beatson_Charity suggested that I shave my head as it was all falling out over my face and in my eyes but you just know better Debs, but I’ll always support trans people," she said sharing a heart-breaking photo looking worn down.

"Despite the gender critics mocking me for my cancer diagnosis I won’t stop supporting trans people."

Taking to social media to support the Glaswegian funny woman, one said: "@JaneyGodley what you have to remember is you bring joy and love into people’s lives. Haters gonna hate, and it shrivels their lives with every vile tweet,."

Another wrote: "@JaneyGodley is being harassed & taunted abused about Cancer simply because she offers daily support to Trans People."

In response to the troll, another Twitter user said: "Dear Deb how’s this tweet working out for you? Not well I see. Jane is a brave warrior and needs support. If you can’t say anything nice then don’t say anything at all. Shame on you."

"You know how karma works? I hope for your sake it’s not true," Janey said as she hit back at one of the trolls.

On a more positive note, the news comes as Janey posted an update with some good news confirming her blood results came back normal, so she will be going ahead with another bout of chemotherapy on Wednesday.

She also recently won the inaugural Sir Billy Connolly Spirit of Glasgow award just minutes after closing the International Comedy Festival.
