Glasgow cold snap as temperatures plummet to -4 amid 'arctic blast'

People around Glasgow will be feeling the chill as temperatures drop across the country. And things are about to get even colder, with temperatures to plummet to -4°C this week.

An 'Arctic chill' is expected to sweep across the west, with the Met Office forecasting highs of just 1°C across the upcoming weekend.

Thursday's forecast reads: "A few wintry showers over Argyll and isles, mainly early in the day, otherwise dry and bright with long spells of crisp winter sunshine, though perhaps some freezing fog patches".

With the cold conditions, forecasters note the slight chance of snow in areas across the west this evening. The BBC forecast for this evening states: "Tonight will see some patchy cloud build in from the north for a time, bringing the outside chance of a wintry shower in places".

As we head through the week, freezing fog patches are expected to remain throughout the weekend, with temperatures struggling to rise past zero throughout Saturday and Sunday. Light winds will make it feel even chillier throughout the weekend and into next week.

The bitter chill is not going anywhere fast, with "widespread frosts locally severe at times" as we reach next week, reports the Met Office.

As we approach the festive season, the Met Office Christmas forecasts milder conditions, with temperatures returning to average numbers for this time of year - highs of around 5 or 6 degrees and lows of 2°C.
