Glasgow charity bringing back their Paw Walk for National Dog Week

A Glasgow charity is bringing back its annual Paw Walk, for the third year running.

As part of National Dog Week, an event from Beatson Cancer Charity will raise money for supporting cancer patients and their families across the west of Scotland. Between September 19 and 25, dog owners are invited to join by walking anywhere, at any time, and covering any distance.

At the end of National Dog Week, Beatson will be hosting a get together for furry friends at West Brewery - also raising funds for the charity. This is planned for September 25 and 26, between 11am and 3pm.

Everyone who signs up will receive a Beatson t-shirt for themselves, and tier 2 sign ups will also receive a Beatson Tartan dog bandana. Those looking to go the extra mile can enter their four-legged friends in a competition to become the next Beatson Ambassadog.

The current Ambassadog, Milo, has been supporting the charity since last year. He was entered by his owner Erin Phairs, after the pup supported Erin through her cancer treatment as a child.

Erin said: “It’s been such an amazing experience. Being able to spread the word and Milo being able to use his wee face to help promote the Betason - it’s been amazing.

“I would say to anyone with a dog to definitely enter the Ambassadog competition, it’s so worth it - just the chance to be able to help the charity in any way and if nothing else, it’s fun just to enter.”

To enter your four-legged friend, you can simply send Beatson a picture of them. Should they win, they’ll help out with fundraising activities and become the face of the flagship Off the Beatson Track event for 2023.

As for the Paw Walk, each participant will receive treats provided by Creature Comforts. Charlene Low, corporate partnerships fundraiser at Beatson Cancer Charity, said: “Our dogs are just wonderful.

“Everybody who has a dog knows how important they are. I couldn’t live without my dog - she’s my everything and has got me through so many hard times - as has Milo, our current Ambassadog with his lovely owner Erin.

“We all know how important dogs are in our lives and how special they are so we just want more dogs to become involved and make a difference to those facing cancer.”

If you’d like to get involved in the Paw Walk, more information can be found here.

To enter the Ambassadog competition, which closes on September 25, you can send pictures on to PawWalk@beatsoncancercharity.org
