Christmas is fast approaching, and with the cost of living crisis continuing those who can might be thinking of how to help others in need.

Here in Glasgow, there’s an array of charities and organisations that are accepting food donations for the festive period - so much so that it can get a little overwhelming. Meadowpark Centre

Based in Dennistoun, the Meadowpark Centre has been helping locals for more than 40 years. This year, they’re looking to reach as many people as possible.

They’ll be creating food parcels for Christmas, adding that the supplies could be: “The difference between being able to eat or not amid the cost of living crisis.”

Meadowpark Centre is looking for contributions in the form of dried food, canned foods, cereals and baby food/products - among other things.

Glasgow Baby Food Bank

This Glasgow charity decided to put aside their Christmas drive, to focus on baby formula donations.

The holiday campaign was shelved, though over the festive period they will be looking for formula to make sure families aren’t going without. The need for baby items has increased dramatically over the past few years, with the charity saying food is going out the door as quickly as it's coming in.

Trussell Trust

With several locations across Glasgow, the Trussell Trust are constantly looking for donations for their food banks - especially during the festive period.

This year, the charity has created a shopping list of items that they are in need of to help create their Christmas parcels. This includes tinned meats, boxed cakes, toiletries, ‘fancy’ biscuits, and much more.

You can find a full list of items required, and the locations to drop them off at, here.

Drumchapel Food Bank

Providing food packages year long, the Drumchapel Food Bank will be experiencing high volumes of visitors over December.

Just a few months ago, the organisation said people were ‘stopping by on their way to work’ to stock up. They’re looking for the usual non-perishables, at their address on Ladyloan Place.

Aldi

Just days ago, Aldi announced their emergency foodbank fund to support charities in Glasgow over Christmas.

Signage in Aldi stores will help highlight the items customers are most in need of, as selected by charities around the city. A survey by Neighbourly, which Aldi works closely with, said 72% of charities will need more help this year.

Items such as rice, cereal, pasta, tinned food and toiletries are in high demand.
