Glasgow 'backed off the boards' after being shortlisted to host Eurovision 2023

Odds on Glasgow hosting the Eurovision Song Contest next year have been slashed to an incredible 1/2 - with punters backing the city "off the boards".

Just last week, Glasgow was as big as even money and First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has backed the bid for the city to be the official location for Eurovision 2023, with the Hydro arena earmarked for the huge event.

But support has also gathered Manchester.

This year's winners Ukraine are unable to host next year due to safety issues because of the ongoing Russian occupation of the Eastern European country.

William Hill spokesperson, Tony Kenny, said: "Punters have really latched on to Glasgow over the past week in the next Eurovision host market, with the Scottish city now just 1/2 to host the famous singing competition having been as big as even-money a week ago.

"Birmingham has drifted to 7/2, while there’s been a bit of support for Manchester at 6/1."
