Glasgow Airport was put into lockdown today after a suspicious package was found in a passenger's bag, leaving hundreds in limbo.
The incident led to "wall to wall" queues and disgruntled customers hitting out over a lack of information, although the airport was later opened up to the public as normal.
Police and fire crews descended on the scene at about 6am after being alerted by staff, and a Royal Navy bomb disposal vehicle was spotted outside.
And a bomb disposal robot was also seen at the airport.
Pictures and video from the scene showed crowds being moved over to the car park, where a number of people have gathered already.
Hundreds were seen wrapped in tin foil blankets to keep warm, with officers helping airport staff manage traffic. Two ambulances and two fire appliances have also been spotted parked outside the terminal building entrance.
There were reports that some passengers were beginning to make their way home on buses and in taxis.
A spokeswoman from the airport said passengers faced delays as emergency services deal with the package.
They said: “At approximately 6am Police Scotland attended the airport due to concern around an item in a passenger’s bag in the central search area.
"Access to this part of the terminal is currently restricted while checks are being carried out meaning passengers arriving at the airport for departing flights will face delays. We are liaising with Police Scotland and will provide an update as soon as we can.”
A Police Scotland spokeswoman told the Mirror that the terminal building was closed "as a precaution".
The force said: "Police and emergency services are currently in attendance at an ongoing incident at Glasgow Airport.
"The terminal building has been closed as a precaution, however, not evacuated. No further details available at this time."
SNP MP Ronnie Cowan complained that passengers were not being given information about what was going on.
Alexander Pugantsov, who was waiting for a flight, said there were long queues as a result.
He wrote: "Security shut because of a 'police incident' at Glasgow Airport this morning.
"Not sure what’s happened but the queues are from wall to wall and not moving."
Another customer complained: "Of course the day I’m trying to go on holiday Glasgow Airport has a suspicious package found and they’ve shut everything in the airport off. Evil."
Police later confirmed that "following examination of the item by the Royal Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal team (EOD), it was confirmed that it posed no risk to the public and was innocent in nature".
