'Glad you hated Dundee': Band called out after whinging about Scottish festival

AN English rock band were in for a royal pasting after they repeatedly whinged on stage about the audience at a Dundee festival.

Sussex rockers Royal Blood were not happy with the reaction they got from the crowd at BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend festival at Camperdown Park on Sunday.

A video of the band went viral on Twitter showing lead signer and bassist Mike Kerr moaning about the crowd.

He said: “Well I guess I should introduce ourselves seeing as no-one actually knows who we are. We’re called Royal Blood and this is, uh, rock music. Who likes rock music? Nine people…brilliant.”

At another point the singer said: “We’re having to clap ourselves because that was so pathetic.”

The video goes on to show Kerr trying to get a BBC camera operator to clap for the band, before he exits the stage abruptly showing two middle fingers to the audience while walking away.

Kerr’s strop drew sharp criticism on social media, with Twitter users accusing him of coming across as “spoilt”. Others said the rock band should not have agreed to play at a festival with a pop bent.

One Twitter user said: “I’m a big fan of their music but there’s absolutely no getting around the fact that this is 100% c***ish behaviour.

“Congrats Royal Blood; you’ve just gone down severely in the estimations of your own fan base, never mind that unfortunate crowd.”

Another said: “Royal Blood are absolutely pish. Fake metal pop stars. A pair of posh boys thumping out boring drum lines and acting edgy.

“Fillers of a stage while we wait for proper talent to turn up. Glad you hated Dundee.”
