Leeds United rounded off pre-season with a comprehensive 6-2 win over Serie B side Cagliari at Elland Road. Goals from Rodrigo Moreno (3), Patrick Bamford (2) and Robin Koch handed Leeds the victory just five days before the Premier League opener with Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Jesse Marsch named a strong side in Leeds’ final friendly of the summer and barring any injuries, is likely to be the XI that takes to the field on Saturday. After a frustrating opening half an hour, Leeds opened the scoring on 35 minutes through Rodrigo.
The Spaniard worked a yard of space inside the area before firing a shot on the turn into the top corner. After several changes from the visitors at half time, the floodgates opened in the second 45 minutes.

Leeds scored two inside the first five minutes after the break, with Rodrigo’s attempted pass across goal being deflected in, before Bamford finished off a superb pass from Brenden Aaronson. Out of nowhere, Cagliari reduced the deficit to one with two goals in the space of a minute, but Bamford restored Leeds’ comfort by steering home a cutback from Jack Harrison.
Marsch’s side rounded off the victory with two more goals in the final 10 minutes, with Rodrigo tapping in from close range and Koch heading in his second goal of pre-season. Leeds’ focus will now switch towards the real action this weekend as they look to put together a more productive season this time around.
