Newcastle United have got one foot through the Wembley Stadium doors after their 1-0 win over Southampton in the first leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final.
There were numerous missed chances for the visitors after Joe Willock blazed two chances over the crossbar in the first half before Joelinton's goal was controversially ruled out for a handball in the penalty area by referee Stuart Attwell - a decision VAR did not overturn.
However, the Brazilian would get his goal after Alexander Isak's introduction saw him play a fantastic ball across the six-yard box which Joelinton dispatched - but only after he fired his own miss over the bar from two-yards out minutes before.

An instant reply from the Saints was believed to have occurred when Adam Armstrong pegged the Magpies back with a nice finish but it was ruled out after a VAR check for handball.
Southampton centre-back Duje Caleta-Car was sent off when he was shown a second yellow card after tripping up Allan Saint-Maximin who was breaking through onto goal.
