Give me a shoulder-to-shoulder ride on a tram to sport or music any day

I have been going to sports events and big music concerts in stadiums around the world for, ahem, some decades - and what I know is that city centre venues work better than out-of-towners.

Watching live sport or music is about sharing. It's about the feeling that large numbers of people are united in their passion. We sway, we chant (sometimes in opposition to the other end) but we do it together. That's a large part of the fun of it.

You don't do communal rejoicing in a car, but a stadium in Commonwealth Park would be next to the tram stop. Picture by Karleen Minney.
