Girls Aloud star Nadine Coyle shares band's reunion plans after Sarah Harding's death

Girls Aloud are planning a reunion to honour their bandmate and friend Sarah Harding following her death last year. The singer, who grew up in Stockport, tragically died aged 39 in September after being diagnosed with cancer.

Sarah told fans in August 2020 that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer, which had spread to other parts of her body. Her mum Marie then announced Sarah's death on Instagram and described her "beautiful" daughter as "a bright shining star".

Her Girls Aloud bandmates, who shot to fame on Popstars: The Rivals in 2002 after being put together on the show judges by Pete Waterman, Louis Walsh and Geri Halliwell, all paid their individual tributes following the news of Sarah's passing.

It now appears that Nadine Coyle, Kimberley Walsh, Cheryl, and Nicola Roberts are planning on doing more to honour Sarah and the girl group's 20th anniversary. "We’re planning a night for an event to raise money in honour of Sarah," Nadine, 36, has told OK! "She’s very much in the forefront of our minds.

"We want to raise money for a piece of medical equipment that helps diagnose cancer earlier so people can be treated. We definitely want to do something to help others."

Speaking on behalf of her former bandmates, Nadine added: "[Sarah’s passing] still affects us deeply, to think about everything that she went through."

She also spoke of hopes for an off-stage reunion with their children now most of the group are now mums. "Obviously, Cheryl has Bear and Kimberley has got her three little ones - Bobby, Cole and Nate - and we were planning on getting all of the babies together a while back but never got round to it," Nadine, who is mum to eight-year-old daughter Anaiya, told the publication.

After winning Popstars, Girls Aloud scored the Christmas number one that year with their debut single Sound Of The Underground before becoming one of the country's biggest girl bands.

The chart-topping girl band, who released five studio albums and countless number ones, announced their split back in 2013 after reuniting the year before for a big ten year anniversary tour and greatest hits album.

Back in November, emotional tributes were once again made on what would have been Sarah's 40th birthday. Cheryl shared a moving montage packed with memories of Sarah performing and being interviewed with her bandmates over the years.

It also features clips of Sarah from the girls' early days on Popstars: The Rivals during which Girls Aloud was formed and she won a place in the band. Maroon 5's Memories plays in the background while footage of Sarah in her element is flashed up.

Cheryl simply wrote alongside the moving video to her millions of followers: "Memories may be all we’re left with, but they’re enough to last a lifetime #Sarahs40th."
