Girlguiding redesigns its uniform for first time since the 1990s

  • Girlguiding has unveiled its first significant uniform overhaul in over three decades, aiming to foster a genuine sense of belonging and self-expression among its members.
  • The new collection, co-created with thousands of girls and designed by HemmingwayDesign, allows members to wear just a top from the range to be considered in uniform, offering greater choice and personal style.
  • Comprising 30 garments and 15 accessories , the range focuses on practicality, comfort, and sustainability, with features like hidden pockets and customisable neckerchiefs.
  • A survey highlighted that 93 per cent of girls feel most comfortable when they can choose how to style themselves, reinforcing the importance of the redesign in nurturing confidence and individuality.
  • This uniform update comes six weeks before a policy change requiring transgender girls to leave the organisation , following a decision to limit membership to 'girls and young women' after a 2025 Supreme Court ruling on biological sex.
