Man shot in the neck in broad daylight as 'kids played out' in the street
A man was shot in the neck in broad daylight as "kids played in the street".
At around 3pm officers were called to a report that a man had been shot in an alleyway on Rosalind Way in Kirkdale. The 21-year-old man was taken to hospital for treatment to a gunshot wound to his neck.
His condition is described as serious but not life-threatening. When the ECHO visited the scene at around 9.30pm a huge police cordon covered large area of empty grassland off Rosalind Way which is behind a number of houses.
One person living in the area said they heard a "bang" but thought it was a "motorbike backfiring". They added "kids were playing out in the street" at the time of the incident.
Police said it was reported two men wearing dark clothing were seen running from the scene towards Westminster Road. Officers remain at the cordon and will be carrying out forensic, CCTV, house-to-house and witness enquiries, and speaking to the local community.

Sacked worker threatens to paint 'nonce' on manager's house
A man sacked from his job threatened to paint "paedophile" and "nonce" on his manager's house.
Peter Melia, 46, flew into a rage when he was dismissed from his role as a warehouseman at a company in Speke. The dad-of-four and grandad-of-two had worked for the firm for more than a year.
Liverpool Crown Court heard the company decided to fire Melia for reasons not heard in open court. Christopher Taylor, prosecuting, said Melia reacted "very badly" when his manager called him into his office on January 6, 2021.
He said Melia threatened to spray paint the manager's house and also the business. Police were then called and Melia, of Worcester Avenue, Clubmoor, was arrested.
Melia told officers when interviewed he "couldn't be bothered" and said "you know what it's all about". Melia denied making a threat to damage or destroy property.
