Girl, 8, taken to hospital after attack by dog in south-east London park

An eight-year-old girl suffered leg injuries after being attacked by a dog in a south-east London park.

The girl was playing with a water bottle on a walk with her grandmother in Danson Park, Bexleyheath about 12.15pm on Sunday when she was mauled by the black Cane Corso. She was taken to hospital with a puncture wound to her leg.

Images seen by the Standard show bruising to the girl’s stomach and a bloody gash to her right leg.

Her mother told the Standard: “My daughter was bending down doing her water bottle up when the dog approached her and sniffed her and walked away.

“This was while the dog was on a training lead but it was short.

“As soon as they walked away the owner loosened the lead and the dog came back and bit my daughter.

“Then he just walked away,” she claimed.

Addressing the owner she added: “Do the right thing and come forward, my daughter had a lucky escape. Another child might not be so lucky.”

A Met spokeswoman said: “Police were called at 12:16hrs on Sunday, 2 April to a report of a girl bitten by a dog in Danson Park, Bexleyheath.

“The victim, aged eight, was taken to hospital where she was treated for an injury to her leg.

“Officers are carrying out enquiries.

“No arrests have been made.”

The attack came the day after a woman was arrested after a dog attacked an 11-year-old girl at an home in Bexley.

Police rushed to a property on Byron Drive in Erith at 1.40pm on Saturday following reports of an attack.

An 11-year-old girl was found at the scene with injuries and taken to hospital. Her condition has been assessed as not life-threatening or life-changing.

The dog was contained and removed from the address.
