The girlfriend of a 15-year-old schoolboy who was stabbed to death outside a Huddersfield school has spoken of the moment her friend informed her about the attack which left her heart "shattered".
Shyana James, 16, was at school in Kirklees College, Huddersfield, when a friend called and broke the news about what had happened to her boyfriend, Khayri McLean, who was stabbed to death yesterday (Wednesday , September 21), Yorkshire Live reports.
A 16-year-old has since been arrested on suspicion of the murder, which took place outside North Huddersfield Trust School. Khayri was rushed to Leeds General Infirmary but sadly died from his injuries.

Shyana and Khayri had been dating for six months, she said: “My friend phoned me and told me what had happened. My heart was just shattered. She said: ‘Your boyfriend has been hurt.’ I phoned a taxi firm and when I got to the scene it was all taped off. I saw him lying there with paramedics around him. I went to Leeds General Infirmary with my mum.
“We have been dating for six months and he was a really nice boy. He had just started playing football and enjoyed it.”
Shyana's mother said her daughter described him as “the perfect boy”. Sherrin James, who left flowers at the scene in Huddersfield, said the pair were “literally inseparable".
“He was her first proper boyfriend," Sherrin said. "She absolutely adored him and he absolutely adored her.” A card addressed to “Kharyi” was left with the floral tributes outside the North Huddersfield Trust School, while a GoFundMe page has been set up to give Khayri “the best send off”.
NHTS pupils Alfie Wilkinson and Ruben Duncan-Keane left flowers at the scene with their mothers. Ruben, 12, said they had been “traumatised” by what had happened while Alfie, 12, described the boy who had died as “a very popular kid”.
He said: “I’ve seen him about and he just looked like a nice kid and I didn’t know why anybody would want to do that to anyone.”
Describing the incident, Alfie said: “I saw him lying on the floor and then one of my teachers started giving him chest compressions to keep him alive and covering the wound. He thought it was a normal school day, going to school and then he came out and got stabbed. He didn’t even get to go home and tell his mum how his day was, and that shouldn’t happen to anyone.”
