Girl, 14, killed and another injured after car leaves road and crashes into them

A 14-year-old girl has died and another injured after a car swerved off the road and crashed into the pair. The horror incident occurred at this morning (October 26) when a black Vauxhall veered off the road and collided into the youngsters.

Authorities rushed to the scene at the junction of Braunstone Lane and Mortimer Way, off Narborough Road in Leicester, at roughly 11am. An ambulance was later seen taking out of the casualties to hospital.

Just after 2pm, Leicestershire Police confirmed that one of the children had tragically died in the crash. Forensic investigators remain at the scene where a car, believed to be the vehicle involved in the smash, can be seen lying on its side and covered with a police tent.

As reported by Leicester Live, a police spokeswoman said: "We were called to the junction of Braunstone Lane and Mortimer Way shortly after 11am today following a report a black Vauxhall Astra had left the road and collided with two children.

"One of the children was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. The other girl, also aged 14 suffered injuries that were not life-threatening or life-changing."

A man in his 30s was also taken to the major trauma centre at the University Hospital of Coventry, in Walsgrave. His injuries are described as "serious".

Road closures remain in place while inquiries into the incident continue and no arrests have been made so far. Detective Sergeant Lisa Wood, from the force’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU), said crash investigators have already interviewed several people who were in the area at the time of the fatal crash, but said the force urges anyone who can help the investigation to come forward.

"While we’ve spoken to a number of people who were in the area at the time, I am particularly keen to speak to any motorists with dashcams in their vehicles," she said. "I'd like to speak to anyone who saw the Astra prior to it leaving the road or who saw the collision occur. Any information you have could help my investigation."

Roads in the area are likely to remain shut for the rest of the day as the fatal crash investigation continues, with diversions in place for drivers.

Anyone with information is asked to call the police 101 number, quoting incident 187 of Wednesday, October 26. Detectives can also be contacted using the force website here.
