Police say a 14-year-old girl charged with aggravated burglary was in possession of a homemade gun when she was arrested at a home in Hobart's northern suburbs.
Officers were called to the property on Amy Street, West Moonah, at 3:40am on Sunday, where the girl was arrested.
She was held in custody overnight to appear before court today charged with aggravated burglary, stealing and firearms offences.
A 21-year-old man was also arrested at the scene and charged with two counts of burglary and stealing, while another man, 33, was charged with aggravated burglary and stealing.
Detective Inspector Troy Morrisby said the 33-year-old allegedly fled the scene.
"The 33-year-old male that fled the scene as police arrived caused themselves a significant injury whilst running from the property, which later required them to make contact with Ambulance Tasmania," Detective Inspector Morrisby said.
"He remains in a stable condition in the Royal Hobart Hospital undergoing treatment to his injury."
Detective Inspector Morrisby said the decision to hold the 14-year-old in custody overnight was not made lightly and was "reflective of a number of factors", including the seriousness of the crimes alleged to have been committed, "and the involvement of a firearm and public safety".
"We are concerned to be dealing with an incident that [allegedly] involves a 14-year-old and a firearm," he said.
A quantity of jewellery allegedly taken from the property is still missing, with police looking for an 18-carat gold ring with a snake head on it, two gold-banded Ferrari watches and two gold wedding bands.
