Giovanni van Bronckhorst provides Alfredo Morelos update and Rangers transfer window insight

Rangers manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst

GIOVANNI VAN BRONCKHORST has backed Alfredo Morelos to be an important part of his Rangers plans this term after holding showdown talks with the striker over his Ibrox future.

Morelos was left out of the squad for the Champions League clash with PSV Eindhoven last week amid concerns over his physical condition and mentality.

That decision from Van Bronckhorst came just days after the Colombian was sent off during the draw with Hibernian at Easter Road as huge doubt was cast over his place at Rangers.

But Van Bronckhorst has now offered an olive branch to Morelos on the eve of transfer deadline day and insisted he can play a leading role for his side once again.

The Dutchman saw his side move into the last eight of the Premier Sports Cup with a 3-1 victory - earned thanks to a Robbie Ure strike and Scott Arfield brace - over Queen of the South on Tuesday night.

And he is relaxed about potential incomings this week after confirming Morelos has vowed to change his ways to ensure he returns to the Ibrox attack.

Van Bronckhorst said: "I had a good chat with him on Sunday. He had a good week to train, but also to think about his future.

"I had a good talk with him. As I said before, he is still a Rangers player. I think he is going to be important for us in the next months and this season.

"I saw a change in his attitude, the way he worked. He has to keep continue working like this for the next coming months to be the player he can be – and a player who can give us a lot.

"I’m relaxed [about adding to the squad]. There is still a couple of days. You never know what is happening in those days and you have to be prepared.

"At the moment, I think this is the squad we are going to have. As I mentioned before, we created this squad to be competitive and reach the Champions League as well, which they did. I’m quite relaxed."
