Giovanni van Bronckhorst expresses Rangers delight as he tells Celtic title race is still on

Giovanni van Bronckhorst expressed his delight at Rangers' win over Hearts as he warned Celtic the title race is still ON.

The Light Blues returned to winning ways following Sunday's shock defeat at McDiarmid Park against St Johnstone. That loss heaped huge pressure on the Dutchman and his players as they fell seven points behind Celtic in the race for the Premiership title. That tally remains the same after the midweek action with Ange Postecoglou's men also narrow winners at Motherwell.

Malik Tillman was the Rangers hero on the night as he fired past Hearts No1 Craig Gordon to secure a huge three points and get the Ibrox men back to winning ways ahead of the final match before the World Cup shutdown. The fans showed their anger on Sunday by confronting skipper James Tavernier in Perth - but they were sent home with a smile on their faces with the gaffer happy with the result. He also expressed the positives from the five-week break for the World Cup including recovery and getting players back from injury.

Speaking to BBC Sportsound, he said: "I am happy. First I am happy for the team and club that we got three points. After that comes the manager because for me the club is always the most important thing. I am happy that we won the three points for this club.

"It's important to finish with a win and get the three points. We have a five week break before our first competitive game after the break. We can rest a bit, recover and prepare well for the second phase.

"A five week break is always good to have. Hopefully we can get some players back from injury and start fresh again against Hibs in the first game."

Asked if the title race is still on, he added: "Well of course it is still on. We have to show that every game and give everything we have to win the games we play. That is the same for Saturday. We forget about this game and prepare well for St Mirren and try and get the three points."
