Giovanni Pernice ‘eyeing up’ spot on Strictly Come Dancing judging panel

Could Strictly winner Giovanni Pernice be eyeing up the next judging spot on the panel?

The dancer is arguably more qualified to rate winners than his former fellow competitor Anton du Beke - as he likes to make it known.

Poor Anton - who replaces Bruno Tonioli on the show’s panel for a second year next series - gets mercilessly ribbed over his poor track record for making it to the show’s final.

Giovanni, who scooped the Glitterball trophy last year with EastEnders actress Rose Ayling-Ellis, quips: “I’m the professional dancer. I think he’s been in the final once in eighteen years - so that’s, a good record for him.

“He’s never won Strictly, and I’ve been in the final five times. Just in seven years.

“So that’s the difference between us.”

But the Italian dancer insists it is all fun and games between the pair who tour together as a duo - describing Anton as a “big brother” to him, who took him under his wing and helped him adapt to life in Britain when he started on the show in 2015.

“When I joined Strictly, he helped me with everything,” he tells Nick Grimshaw and Angela Hartnett on the new episode of their podcast, Dish, out today (MUST). “I couldn’t speak any English and he has always been there for me since the beginning.

“That’s the thing that we talk about when we do the show together - it’s about the fun that he’s never won Strictly.”

He also banters of their tour: “He always goes wrong with the steps.”

Anton might not require that 10 panel for his mate this series.
