Gio van Bronckhorst in Rangers U-turn as he insists Antonio Colak and Alfredo Morelos CAN play together

Gio van Bronckhorst has performed a Rangers striking U-turn as he now believes he CAN play Antonio Colak and Alfredo Morelos together.

It’s been one or the other so far this season - or more like one - after Colak started the season in red hot from and Morelos was dropped from the squad for attitude and fitness problems. The Croat has 11 goals in 15 appearances so far, while the Colombian netted his second goal of the season and his first since coming back into the fold in the 4-0 win over Hearts last weekend.

Morelos got the nod for the crunch Champions League meeting with Liverpool at Anfield on Tuesday night, but was replaced by Colak after an ineffective and service-starved 72 minutes. The Gers face St Mirren at Ibrox on Saturday as they return to Premiership action, and the clamour for both frontmen to be paired together is growing.

Van Bronckhorst has now admitted that it’s something he thinks could work, saying: “Everything is possible. They are two players who have a goal threat. Colak’s start of the campaign has been fantastic. Morelos is scoring goals as well, getting fitter and stronger every game he plays."

That is at odds to the response he gave when asked the same question earlier in the season. Speaking before the playoff encounter with PSV, and prior to Morelos being dropped, the Light Blues boss said: “I never played with two strikers, maybe only when we need to force things. That’s what I like from the squad, the competition we have in all areas. I would rather have competition than no strikers available like the last few months of last season."

Van Bronckhorst has been further boosted in the striking department, saying: "We have good strikers. Kemar is already back training fully with the squad, so there’s another option. So at the moment in games, I think they are definitely capable of playing together but we need to see in which game we can use them both from the start of moments in games when we have to force a goal. But they can both definitely be on the pitch at the same time.”
