Barry Ferguson reckons former teammate Giovanni van Bronckhorst has to restore experience to his Rangers starting XI.
The Light Blues boss has a puzzle to sort next Tuesday after Union-Saint Gilloise downed them 2-0 in their Champions League third round qualifiers first leg in Leuven. Veteran goalkeeper Allan McGregor was on the bench while Jon McLaughlin started between the sticks and 37-year-old midfielder Steven Davis was also unused sub.
Ferguson reckons both can still make an impact for Rangers in the twilight of their careers with a defining European battle coming to Govan in five days time. He told Go Radio: “Steven Davis? Yeah. I still think he’s got it in him. I don’t care what age he is, he’s got it in him and he’s an ultimate professional. For me, he could easily still play in the Rangers XI. I am not going to sit here and slate Jon McLaughlin.

"But if you’re putting big Jon and Allan together then it’s McGregor all day long for me. There’s plenty of European experience.
"It was a bad night at the office and Rangers were really below part. You could see it in Gio’s interview after the game.
"He was shellshocked with the performance. The beauty of being a football player is there’s a game just round the corner and I think a lot of positions are up for grabs."
