Defiant Rangers manager Gio van Bronckhorst says he doesn’t fear the sack. The Ibrox gaffer has come under scrutiny after a 7-1 mauling from Liverpool in the Champions League on Wednesday night.
Rangers have conceded 16 goals in four group games and don’t have a point in Europe yet. The Liverpool humiliation came after two 4-0 drubbings at the hands of Celtic and Ajax earlier this season. But van Bronckhorst insists he doesn’t feel under pressure from the Ibrox board.
Ahead of the Scottish Premiership clash against Motherwell at Fir Park, van Bronckhorst said: “It can be a crazy thing when you see the changes of managers. That’s the position we’re in as managers. But I never think of moments like that to be fired. I want to continue my work and put my energy into that. What I really like is the backing of my directors. I have a feeling we are all in this together.
"We all work hard to bring success back to this club and that will come with highs and lows. Wednesday was definitely a low for all of us. But I have a feeling that in this club we win together and lose together.
“We will all fight to get back on track and that starts on Sunday. For me, it’s very good to feel that. But I also know that as a manager you have to perform and bring success to the club.
“That’s definitely the case when you are manager of Rangers. In the long-term, I have to perform too and that’s what I want to do.”
Van Bronckhorst revealed there has been little progress in contract talks with Alfredo Morelos and Ryan Kent, whose deals expire next summer. But the boss says uncertainty over their futures isn’t behind their struggles on the pitch.
He added: “Of course you want your players to sign contracts sooner than later but you need two sides to agree. We have to wait and see what will happen in the coming months or even in the summer.
“I don’t think the uncertainty is affecting them. Ryan is in and out of the game but is improving his performances.
“Alfredo is different because he came back from a long-term injury. They both want to improve and perform whenever they are playing,”
