Gimme Him: Tyreek Hill would be Patriots missing piece at WR

The New England Patriots will take on the Miami Dolphins in an AFC East divisional matchup on Sunday.

There are several players from the Miami roster that would look good in a New England uniform, but one in particular would be incredible to witness after watching him torch the Los Angeles Chargers last week.

That player is Dolphins All-Pro receiver Tyreek Hill.

He would he that explosive playmaker New England has been missing at the wide receiver position. Just take last week’s game against the Chargers for example. Hill tallied 11 catches for 215 yards and two touchdowns. He was a one-man wrecking crew that allowed the Dolphins offense to keep pace in a high-scoring game.

He has been in the league eight years and has shown no signs of slowing down. When coming to Miami, many thought he would not be the same player he was following his departure from the Kansas City Chiefs.

Yet, after leaving Patrick Mahomes and company, he went on to have a career-year in his first season with the Dolphins in 2022 with 119 catches for 1,710 yards and seven touchdowns. He has consistently shown the ability to be the best player on the field week in and week out.

New England has needed a top receiving weapon for several years. Hill would be perfect for Patriots quarterback Mac Jones, mostly due to his ability to make plays after the catch. Jones hasn’t always been great at throwing to his outside receivers, but he has excelled at throwing in the middle of the field.

A simple slant could turn into a touchdown play with Hill in the offense. The wide receiver’s speed allows him to be able to adjust to several different play styles. Even with some of Jones’ limitations as a quarterback, Hill would still have a major impact in New England.

Speed is also something you need to win in today’s NFL. New England hasn’t had much of that either from their wide receivers over the past couple seasons. Hill would give New England a player that would frustrate opposing defenses, which is something the Patriots do not have on their roster right now.

Miami has done a good job of putting weapons around quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to help him succeed, and Hill is definitely a big part of that. The jury is still out on whether New England has given enough weapons for Jones to play at a high level.

Hill to New England would be exactly what the Patriots need. Unfortunately, they have the misfortune of game-planning against him instead of with him.
