Gillingham drop Bolton Wanderers Kyle Dempsey transfer hint after Neil Harris appointed as boss

New Gillingham boss Neil Harris' first job at Priestfield will be to oversee comings and goings at the club on transfer deadline day as Bolton Wanderers seek to sign Kyle Dempsey.

Wanderers have made the Gills captain their final targeted signing in the January transfer window and have made an offer to the Kent club for his services.

The player's contract expires at Priestfield this summer and would be able to depart for free at the end of June if fresh terms are not agreed and this window could be the last change the Gills have to claim a fee for Dempsey.

The 26-year-old played the full game of the 7-2 loss at home to Oxford United and it is possibly his last game for the Gills.

Wanderers are seeking to make Dempsey their final acquisition of the transfer window, but will not deviate from their final offer for the Gills man.

Now that Harris has been appointed at Priestfield, Dempsey's future will be in his in tray at the Kent club and Gills chairman Paul Scally has said that his first job will be to oversee both comings and goings on transfer deadline day, which will surely include the midfielder.

Scally said: “It has been a difficult task over the past few weeks, interviewing and selecting the right candidate but I am delighted that with Neil’s experience, his knowledge and passion of this Football Club, and his desire to take the club on a new journey, that today is the start of a new tomorrow.

“After a difficult weekend, Neil’s first job will be to oversee any movement of players, in or out of the club today, and to prepare the team as best he can for tomorrow night’s game.

“I would ask all supporters who care and love the club, irrespective of their views on other matters, to come out and support the club in force tomorrow evening and focus solely on supporting the team and showing the new management team the respect and consideration they deserve, which will enable them to start the process of rebuilding the team.

“It won’t be an immediate fix but Neil will change the world for the better as quickly as possible. The work starts immediately.”
